Help with Jet Handy

The Overhead tab isn't showing any aircraft

Three things to check, in order:

• Location permission. Overhead needs to know where you are to find aircraft near you. Check iOS Settings → Jet Handy → Location and make sure it's set to While Using the App.
• Search radius. Tap the radius control at the top of the tab and try 100 NM. The default is 25 NM, which is quiet in a lot of places.
• There may genuinely be nothing up there. Overhead shows real, live traffic. Away from the airways, at night, or in a quiet region, an empty list is the correct answer rather than a bug.

Why does the app want my location?

Only the Overhead tab uses it, and only to answer "what's flying near this point". The coordinates go to the public ADS-B service that supplies the aircraft data and are never stored by us. Deny the permission and everything else in the app still works normally — you just won't get the Overhead list. See the privacy policy for the detail.

I forgot my password

Tap Forgot your password? on the app's sign-in screen, or click the same link at tracker.jethandy.com, and enter your email address or username. We'll email you a link for choosing a new one. The link is good for one hour and works only once — if you requested two, use the newest email, because asking again cancels the earlier link.

Setting a new password signs you out everywhere else. That's deliberate: if you're resetting because someone else got into your account, leaving their session alive would defeat the point.

Where are my photos? They didn't sync

Photos attached to a sky log entry are stored on your iPhone only. They're never uploaded, so they don't appear on the website or on another device, they aren't in the backup file the app exports, and deleting the app deletes them. Everything else — spots, type marks, log entries, flown tails — does sync.

I marked something with no signal. Is it lost?

No. Changes you make offline are saved on the device and sent automatically once the app can reach us again. Home shows how many are still waiting, and Settings → Sync lists them with a Sync Now button if you'd rather not wait.

Can I get my data out?

Yes, any time, no strings. Settings → Export Backup writes a JSON file containing your spots, type marks, log entries and flown tails. It's the same format the website uses, so a backup from either side restores on the other via Settings → Import Backup. Photos aren't included, for the reason above.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Delete Account, in the app. It asks for your password, then permanently removes your account and everything in it — your sign-in, your records and your photos — from your phone and from our servers. It can't be undone, so export a backup first if there's any chance you'll want the data later.

If you only want to start over, Settings → Erase All Data clears your records but keeps the account. You can also email us and we'll delete the account for you.

A tail number or airline looks wrong

The fleet database ships with the app and refreshes from the website, so airlines and registrations update without an app update. Aircraft change hands and liveries often, so if something looks out of date, email us the registration and we'll fix the record.
